E-mails from the CEO get attention because…

The CEO of my mega-ad agency sends company-wide e-mails occasionally. I filter these all into a folder with other company-wide communications and I don’t read any of them. I don’t read them because they never say anything that piques my interest. If I want to spend time reading something that excites me, I’ll read one of the 50 blogs I have saved in bloglines.

I noticed this morning that some of my cube-mates were chuckling about something that the CEO said in a recent company-wide communication. I wondered for a minute why it was that these people were interested in what the guy had to say, while I was completely disinterested. I figured that it was because he was the CEO. I guess that just having that title gives you an audience, even amongst people who wouldn’t necessarily benefit from listening to what he has to say.
