A hard-ass about technology
I wanted to have a windows plugin called IME installed on my machine so that I could see Japanese characters. I figure that I read blogs and news during the day, I get my work done, so why shouldn’t I be able to read in Japanese. Keep in mind that this is a functionality that comes with Windows XP, and the only thing that’s required is the installation disk. I e-mailed the person in charge of software and technology, and this is the back-and-forth we have:
Me:I need need files from windows xp sp2 CD. I would like to install some help files from the CD. Can someone bring this by my desk? It should only take 2 or 3 min.
Her:Please let us know why these files are required?
Me:It’s so I can view content in other languages.
Then she calls me to confirm that it’s work related, which I do and I get what I want. I called the files “help files” b/c I knew that she would be uptight about it, but I didn’t really think that she would question “help files”. BTW, this is a person who has a “VP” in her title. I can’t believe someone at that level (and pay scale) has such stupid responsibilities.
